The Milton-Union Exempted Village School District has a 3.9 mil renewal levy on the ballot in November. This levy has been passed every 5 years since 2005, and supports the permanent improvements of the District. This levy is a renewal and therefore will not cost a homeowner any additional money.

Over the last year, the BOE has put out a 5-year plan that will pay off the school debt early by utilizing the PI funding available. Want to learn more about the plan? Go here - https://www.miltonunionalliance.org/chatter/may-2025---earned-income-tax-details---5-year-plan

Some of the most common questions are below:

  • What can permanent improvement (PI) funding used for?

  • Why is there a levy on the November ballot, when a levy was just passed in May?

  • What is a renewal levy?

    • When a limited levy (i.e. 5 year, 10 year, etc.) expires, the Board has two options - to renew it, or to replace it. There has been much discussion in the State of Ohio about replacement levies (which may soon be outlawed), but this request is a renewal levy, which is supported by the State. Want to know the difference?

      • Renewal. Ohio law generally allows districts to ask voters to renew a limited levy when it expires. The levy must be for the same purpose and is renewed at the effective millage rate.

      • Replacement. This type of levy has the same purpose as a renewal, but instead of renewing the previous levy at the effective millage rate, a replacement levy is imposed at the original millage rate of the levy that it replaces. This gives the district the benefit of any growth in local value that occurred over the life of the previous levy.
